Neilston Development Trust and Crofthead Concerts

by

Yesterday we went to a fun workshop in Neilston.   We worked on a tune led by Mairearad Green and Anna Massie.  The attendees were guitar and accordion players.   Over the next few months Neilston Development Trust (NDT)  are running several workshops for ukelele, song, pipes and drums.  0141-561-1201 or admin@neilstontrust.co.uk for details.

In the evening Mairearad (apparently prononouncing it ‘My Red’ is close enough) and Anna gave a very good concert at the bowling club.  They did a varied set on accordion, small pipes, fiddle, guitar and banjo.  I got a nice wee book of Mairearad’s compositions which includes a tune ‘For the Young’ that we did at the GFW classes.   The story was that this was not in fact written for young folk in general but for…..Will Young winning the X Factor.

We discovered that Mairearad was the composer of the lovely ‘Maggie West’s Waltz’ and to finish we had the well known Lochanside which I just tried for the first time the other day and think is a lovely tune.

We had a great day out in Neilston – everyone was very friendly – the folk at NDT, the guys we watched the rugby with, the staff at the Traveller’s Rest where we had a good meal, and the crowd at the concert.

The Concert was part of a regular series. More details at: http://www.croftheadconcerts.co.uk/

Noticed the next gig there is Kris Drever and Eamonn Coyne. I watched them last night in Paisley and they gave a great show with some fine playing.

    Just like Scratchy.
