Scratchy Noises Practices Venue January 2012

Hi All,

Just a reminder that the practices this Monday 9th Jan,  16th Jan and 23rd Jan are at BERKELEY STUDIOS, 93 Lancefield Street NOT at Stow College or Carlton Studios.

It is a low building opposite Compass Cash and Carry.  There are some parking spaces in the yard but if you don’t get one the parking on street is free after 6pm – make sure you park in a bay though.

The practice will be 7-9 with a break.  The room is available from 6pm.  There are basic coffee/soft drink and snack vending machines and there is a chill out room.  The practice rooms are big and bright and we can move any kit in there as long as we put it back in place at the end.  There are spare chairs next to the vending machines.

If anyone wants a lift we will be leaving Glasgow University main campus about 5.50-6pm.  Phone or text me in advance 07787972514 if this will be any help to you.

Some of us might go to the Islay Inn after so lifts should be available for that too.   You can join in or just listen.

As always everyone welcome if you are happy to go slowish and focus on the limited set of tunes we have on our tunes page.

We collect a small sum usually C£3 to cover the venue hire etc.

    Hey Valerie,

I met you at the Babbity Bowsters just before christmas during the Saturday folk session (I think my friend even borrowed your violin for a bit!). Well I’m keen to come and join scratchy noises practices on a monday. I’m not sure if I can make tomorrow but I’ll definitely try and make the following week. Can you suggest any tunes I should maybe practice in the mean time so I am up to speed?

      Hi Dan,

Good to hear from you. You are very welcome at the Scratchy slow sessions.

The tunes we tend to pick from are listed at

If you want music most of them have links to the version we use.

Ones we regularly cover – Glenside No.1, Margaret’s Waltz, Calum’s Road, Spootiskerry. Rocking the Baby/Scarce o Tatties/Stool of Repentance. All played slowly with lots of mistakes! We go round the room and each person gets a chance to pick a tune or two from the list.
